Ten years ago on July 27th I had my third open heart surgery, the reason for this surgery was to replace one of my heart valves with a pigs. The transplant went as planned and everything seemed to be going well.
However when he was sowing me up he nicked one of my major arteries but didn’t notice until I was all sown up and ready to go to ICU. One of the nurses noticed that my blood pressure was going down and fast. Something was very wrong and they had no idea what it was.
My surgeon says that he heard a ‘small voice’ tell him to go back in and check to see if everything was okay. If he hadn’t gone back in I would have bled to death.  Because of this set back my surgery lasted five hours more than it was supposed to.
When I woke up in the ICU I was confused and hungry. Wires and tubs connected my chest to monitors that beeped every three minutes. Mom was sitting next to my bed reading and waiting for me to wake up.
“Mommy, can I have some pizza?” I had asked. My voice made me sound like I was a heavy smoker.

Unfortunately I was on heavy pain medicine at the time and I passed out almost immediately afterwards only to wake up the next day in a hospital room. My family stood around my bed along with some friends. They all told me that they were glad I was still alive, I was still very much out of it so I don’t really remember anything that they said.
